Mentoplasty (chin surgery)
Few people examine their chins with the same discerning eye they use when they look at the size and shape of their noses, their ears, sagging jowls, or fine wrinkling of the skin. However, a well-defined chin plays a major role in balancing the profiles of both women and men.
Chin surgery, also known as mentoplasty, reshapes the chin to improve the definition along the jawline. Another option is sub-mental liposuction, the removal of excess fatty tissue to sculpt contour of the neck.
What to Expect After Surgery
There is usually minimal discomfort. Chewing should be limited and a liquid or soft food diet may be required for a few days after surgery. Some patients feel a stretched, tight sensation after the surgery, but this subsides as healing progresses.
Complementary Treatments
Dr. Hamilton may recommend chin surgery to a patient having rhinoplasty in order to balance the facial proportions, as the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose.
